Equipment Pick Up

Tonight after Football Theory 101, you will be able to pick up your equipment! In order to get equipment you MUST provide 2 things:

1) A deposit cheque for $150 that will not be cashed unless you fail to return equipment; and

2) A minimum payment of $100 toward your fees ($350). You will also be able to get equipment the following 3 Mondays after practice (March 4, 11 & 18)

Equipment can be picked up at Storage Mart (4015 2 Ave S – by the Casino).

Football Theory 101

Thank you to everyone who came out to the practical orientation on Saturday!

The second half of the orientation will be on Monday February 25 at 7PM-9PM and is a Football theory (101) class. It will be held at YMP Accounting (530 8 Street South). We will cover the following in very broad brush strokes:

Overall point of the game
Belief that personnel drives the philosophy
Offense: positions, division of resources, split flow, attack, ball control, turnovers, momentum, motion, formations
Defense: positions, tackling, containment, zone, man, force, blitz
Special teams: what are the six teams and very basic terms and mandates

There is no need to register or pay, just show up!

Lethbridge Steel February 16th Practical Orientation

The time and location of the practical orientation on February 16th have been changed.

It will now be on February 16th from 2:00pm to 4:00pm at the Orion Sports and Training Centre (click HERE for directions).

There will be a small fee of $5 to attend.

Beginners Football Orientation

Interested in playing football? Never played or even watched it before? Want to come and try it out before you make a decision? This is the time to do it! We are looking for women of all shapes and sizes to join this fantastic family!

On Saturday February 16 from 11AM to 1PM the Steel will be offering a beginners Football practical orientation at Chinook High School. The session will be for first time players with a smattering of a few returners to demonstrate drills and welcome our new prospects. The goal is to promote the game of Football to prospective players as well as demonstrate what the women of Steel are all about in a high tempo fun circuit type environment.

On Monday February 25 at 7PM-9PM Part II of this prospect recruitment orientation will be a Football theory (101) class at Chinook High. We will cover the following in very broad brush strokes:

Welcome to the Lethbridge Steel Homepage. Please take a look at the “about us” section to get an appreciation of our history. Also take a look at who we are today as you browse the many photos, reports and videos.

I was honored to be given the opportunity as Head Coach in 2012 and excited to be part of something that we all could be proud of today and for years to come. I have been coaching Football since 1984, and this by far has been my most memorable year of coaching.

I have learned more about the world and life from our players than I ever have previously. In exchange I push them daily to be the best they can be. They have responded. I have a saying (actually too many really) that I borrowed from another coach:

“…you really don’t have a genuine confidence unless you demonstrate the ability to do something. You can talk about it, but you have to demonstrate it.”

Well we have been demonstrating it since March of 2012. This has been a great year for the Steel, but it is only a first step. We need to continue to build the membership, but not haphazardly. The right people are the best asset and that is who we are targeting.

I encourage you to think about challenging yourself and joining our Team. We are a family, an eccentric one for sure, but a family nonetheless.

I’d like nothing more than to expand our representation to all of Southern Alberta in 2013. There are many great Football communities and families that I have come to know over the years in this region. I hope to see them again as we continue our year round recruiting efforts.
